Ok If you write songs and sing them you are a singer songwriter, but when you haven’t written anything for a while, and when you do your always looking to write something special it can sometimes feellike nothing is ever going to pop out of your head ever again. I started to write a song Monday which is good and as soon as I finnish it I might start another one cos I can.

Life or at least songwriting would be easier If I hadn’t lost all the info off my mobile, I had loads of bits of songs and odd lines stored and now all gone forever. My own fault from now on everything gets transfered asap.

I have also been applying to appear at some music festivals this summer nothing definate yet but I will post any news here and on my website http://www.johnnyedgar.com/

New Year

I have really been hit hard by the man flu thing. Whilst working the other night and thinking to myself will I get throught the evening, having sucked a whole packet of vocal zones, or at least it seemed like that, a guy came up to me and said “you sound great best yet” ironic or what. I finished my festive stint on New years day at the Berrow Inn and hope over the next few days to give my voice a rest. I hope you all had a great time and are looking forward to the New Year as much as I am.

Man Flu NOT

Strange blog this one I’ve been Ill and I’m not talking man flu even though the nurse that saw me said “so you’ve had man flu, oop’s sorry just slipped out!” No it was real flu and a chest infection which prompted me to stop smoking and now I can’t stop coughing and can only sing Leonard Cohen songs as my voice is more gruff than it ever was when I smoked. I hope this will fade as my repertoire is suffering badly!!

I’ve still been gigging but mostly small lunch time ones nothing big thank god don’t think I could handle it!! I’ll be better soon though and with a bit of luck and some hard work I’ll be able to sing even better!! This quiet patch does give me time to learn some new songs mind you and reluctantly some festive songs! Is anyone doing any interesting gigs this festive season? Let me know!! Hope to see you all soon at my next gig don’t forget I’m gigging Monday-Wednesday then Friday and Saturday day 1pm till 3pm at The Kameleon W-s-M (just round the corner form dolphin square) Take it easy all!! Singing at the Kameleon

I have been working lunch time at the Kameleon in Weston-super-Mare. Amazing the people that you meet. Bikers staying in their Winnebago, businessmen grabbing a quick bit to eat, late stay holiday makers drifting of the beach, and of course the many regular locals, they all have a story to tell. Being resident has given me the chance to extend my repertoire someone asks for a song I don’t know and I try to learn it for later in the week, some requests like the guy who shouted “give us a song” when I’m busy loading the gear hasn’t got much chance. Well about as much chance as the slightly inebriated woman who kept asking for Cliff Richards! Big decisions this week on progressing the album exciting times all the tracks are down now we have to refine and define.

Ok you only have to read the last entry to know these blogs are far from regular but I am determined to do better. I have had several interseting happenings recently. Some personal and some musical. I have been doing what I like to call my residency every lunch time at the Kamilion in Weston. Locals my remember it as the bucket and spade at the end of the High Street. The Kamelion has given me chance to sing lots of my own songs. Gigs at the Avonmouth Tavern and the Red Lion Worle coming up so big effort to blog again soon.

Busy time at the moment recorded a TV programme for a Weston community show with Cliff Moore this afternoon, worked last night and the night before and Saturday I’m at the Market House in Weston and Sunday open mike night at the Woodspring in Worle. The TV was fun and Cliff joined in the last song which was great.

Cowboys V’s Indians

What a weird and wonderful night, DB’s w-s-m was covered in tee pees and cowboy paraphernalia and the whole floor had been carpeted with hey (which apparently was a pain in the ass to clean up!) everyone was drinking wagon wheel cocktails and enjoying some cheap tequila.

I shared the acoustic stage with Harrison a young musician from w-s-m who did a lovely half hour of originals, when he had finished an Indian squaw barmaid got on the mic and got the crowd whooping about some drinks promotions and then it was my turn.

The first few songs were well received and a few people got there grove on, I made sure that after every song my banter consisted of some loud yee haa’s and some random cowboy talk, all be it in a dodgy American accent!

The last few were even better especially my last song “Ring Of Fire” as so many people had started dancing by then that I didn’t want to end the song so I randomly yet seamlessly went into a blues riff which I improvised some lyrics over including the drinks promotions the little Indian squaw had been getting so excited about earlier (also in a weird old cowboy film voice). Really great night and some class photos to boot!!

Good start to the night couldn’t play until after the Forrest v Swansea game which was OK. In the studio yesterday which is always cool and in the London the day before that thanks to everyone who came along.

Great pub great friend’s great gig, not a lot more to say really!! (But I will anyway)

It’s always nice to do a gig so near to your house that if you forget something it’s only a five min walk away. I managed to get some of my local mates to come along which is an achievement in itself I’ve always found it hard to get friends to come to gigs I think most people feel if they heard me play guitar once in college that counts as support, plus I get fed up with Facebook maybes (oh could be a good line that!) however last night was different lots of friends lots of family even my twelve year old niece was there for my first set, she’s never seen me do a proper gig before so that was sweet!

All in all The Nut Tree in Worle, Weston-Super-Mare is a great little pub and I recommend it to all!!

Open Mic night Thursday 14^th April

It was an interesting night to say the least, it started with an empty bar so for the first half hour I sang to Steve the bar man. After a few songs and some ridiculous requests from Steve a group of ladies came in so obviously I had sing “you do something to me” (Paul Weller) and “foxy lady” (Jimi Hendrix) and a song of my own invention called “hey ladies I’m board of singing to Steve why don’t you come over here and let me entertain you” (that’s not really a song I just made that up!) however they didn’t come over and let me entertain them NO they decided to go to the other end of the pub and play pool, I think it’s because they couldn’t be bothered to put there pints down at the end of a song and clap, people are so lazy these days or thirsty I’m not sure which!

So I went for a short break as the urge to wee had set in, wasn’t gone more than a min and came back to find thirty young rugby players all in a shirt and tie (they’d just won some league or cup or something) chanting moronic drinking songs that consist of lyrics such as “we like drinking with smithy coz smithy likes a drink drink drink how many 10,9,8,7…..” a little hard to compete with that acoustically. After I foolishly asked for any requests and had no idea what they were saying I opted for the easy option of playing sing along obvious generic covers, you know “wonderwall” (oasis) “Mr bright side” (the killers). It’s great to entertain a crowd but this was a little more hard work than usual, but hey at least I got them singing some lyrics that make sense!!
